1) Why is Midland giving the residents the H2O West Texas 2011 Challenge?
The CRMWD has reduced Midland’s water supply by 20% because Lakes Thomas and Spence are at extremely low levels.
2) Where does Midland get its water?
The City of Midland’s primary water source is the Colorado River Municipal Water District (CRMWD). This consists of Lakes Thomas, Spence, and Ivie.
3) Why is the H2O West Texas 2011 Challenge from April to October?
The highest daily water usage for the residents of Midland is between April and October. This is primarily due to outdoor irrigation. Outdoor water usage is 60% of the City of Midland’s overall usage. The months between April and October are the peak times for outdoor water use.
4) Will this plan restrict my indoor water use?
The H2O West Texas 2011 Challenge is designed to be able to reach the 20% reduction goal by limiting outdoor use and should not impact your indoor use at all.
5) When can I water my yard?
The Challenge is based on even/odd watering days based on the ending digit in your physical address. Addresses ending in even numbers may water on Saturday and Tuesday. Addresses ending in odd numbers may water on Wednesday and Sunday. For example, if your address is 5006 N. Midland Drive then you would base your watering schedule on the number 6 in your address and therefore would water with even numbers on Saturday and Tuesday.
6) Are there any time of day restrictions?
For all addresses, there will be NO watering outside from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm.
7) Can I water my yard starting in the late evening and water until morning?
Based upon your address, you can water only on your designated days (refer to question 5). Your watering day starts at 6 pm on the assigned day for your address and ends the next morning at 10 am.
8) Is there a way to track the progress of the H2O West Texas 2011 Challenge?
Yes, click here to see a graph of Midland's water consumption.
9) If I see someone watering when they are not suppose to be, what do I do?
You may contact our Citizen Action Center to report any questions or concerns regarding the H2O West Texas 2011 Challenge. You can either do this online at www.midlandtexas.gov or calling (432) 685-7474.
10) Why should I participate?
Effective July 1, 2011 the City of Midland implemented Stage 2 of its Drought Contingency Plan. Participation under this plan is now Manditory for all residents using City of Midland sources. Water is a vital life source, please do your part to help protect it and ensure water for the future.
